UNFPA’s campaign promotes prevention, addresses the stigma, and provides life-saving surgeries.
Thousands of women and girls in South Sudan are living with obstetric fistula — a childbirth injury leaving mothers leaking urine and faeces, that often leads to chronic health problems, social isolation, and deepening poverty. Inspired by street art in Juba, we created fictional characters to illustrate the struggles and stigma that sufferers face for UNFPA’s campaign to end fistula. At public outreach booths, prevention is promoted and women are encouraged to sign up for life-saving surgeries.
